The standardized specification BNQ 1809-300 is the ultimate reference in the area of municipal infrastructure in Quebec. It sets out the general technical clauses governing the installation of municipal water and sewer lines.

The specification applies to structures with an invert at a depth not exceeding 7 metres. Specific aspects dealt with include the following:

• excavation and backfilling of trenches;
• provision, transportation, handling and laying of water and sewer lines;
